Clean Monday
Clean Monday ( Καθαρά Δευτέρα
), is the Monday 48 days prior to the orthodox Easter ( Πάσχα
), which marks the beginning of fasting and preparation for Easter day. Today, Clean Monday has become a part of the Greek traditions, celebrated as a national holiday in Greece, but also by Greek expats around the world. Traditionally this day is celebrated in open spaces, usually suburban areas, where families and friends are gathered to dine together on customary cuisine, and to fly kites, a key element of the pure Monday tradition. Of course, keeping up with traditions while an expat is not always easy, especially when living in one of the windiest and rainy countries of Europe and especially during the Covid-19 pandemic. Even though we want to celebrate this day with you, the weather does not permit it right now but we are already organizing our first social event, which will take place in an open space. For that purpose, we would like to see how many people would like to participate, by clicking
in this post. Keep in mind that the maximum number of people in social gatherings for associations is 30 so make sure to let us know. Hopefully, see you all soon!
